Cancer is an ugly word that no one wants to hear. It ranks among the top causes of death for people around the world and killing approximately 158 out of 100,000 men and women each year in the United States. The American Cancer Society estimates that there will be 1.9 million new cancer cases in 2021. Below are six of the worst types of cancer diagnoses that people experience today:

  1. Prostate Cancer
Prostate cancer is a type of cancer that originates in the male prostate gland, where seminal fluid is transferred to sperm. Some forms are slow-growing and stay in one area, while others are more aggressive, spreading to other areas of the body.

  2. Breast Cancer
Both males and females can develop malignant tumors in their breasts (usually within the lobules or breast ducts), known as breast cancer. However, it is more common in women and is the second most prominent cancer seen in females.

  3. Pancreatic Cancer
Pancreatic cancer is among the fastest-growing and violent cancers today. This cancer originates in the pancreas, which supports blood sugar control and discharges specific enzymes to assist in the body’s digestion process.

  4. Colorectal Cancer
Colorectal cancer begins in the colon or rectum when malignant polyps start growing on the inner lining. If not treated properly, these cancerous polyps can spread through other layers of the intestine and eventually transfer to lymph nodes or other parts of the body.

  5. Lung Cancer
Lung cancer starts in the lungs and is the top cause of cancer deaths worldwide. It’s separated into two primary types: small cell lung cancer (heavy smokers) and non-small cell lung cancer (all other cancers). Those who smoke and who have been exposed to secondhand smoke tend to have a higher risk of developing lung cancer. However, people who do not smoke can still develop it.

  6. Mesothelioma
Mesothelioma is an uncommon kind of cancer occurring in the mesothelium, a thin tissue that envelopes your internal organs. The primary cause of this disease is asbestos exposure, a material composed of mineral fibers that can irritate, scar, and cause genetic damage. Most patients are diagnosed with Pleural Mesothelioma, which develops within the lining of the lungs.

If you or a loved one has developed mesothelioma due to exposure to an asbestos-containing product, you may be entitled to compensation. Many people have gained closure after a successful lawsuit thanks to the Mesothelioma Cancer Network.
